Well it's been a bit of a week down here in Devon. On Sunday morning D had her PCR test instead of her first vaccination which she had to cancel. We spent the day quietly getting washing done, pottering in the garden and making some chutney.
On Monday we received notification that D's test was positive so that ruined her week and she has found it very hard coping with isolation. We also took the decision to cancel our holiday in the Lake District as D didn't feel she could cope with being left but didn't want to come with us and we didn't want to risk another one of us coming down with covid. Luckily, on proof of the positive PCR test we received a full refund. In the afternoon we went into town to get stationary items for school and then K went off to play tennis with a friend and me, L and S went over to Teignmouth for a walk along the seafront with an ice cream for L. It was a bit overcast so not too busy.
Tuesday, as the sun was shining we decided to go to the beach. Teignmouth was so busy it took about 20 minutes to find somewhere to park but the tide was out so plenty of room on the beach. We had a lovely couple of hours, the girls swimming and me reading. When we got back K decided to make some cakes for everyone.
On Wednesday S got formal notification of her degree from University and the classification. She got a 2:1 and was absolutely over the moon. We are very very proud of her - the first person in our families to go to university and get a degree. She is now preparing to start working as a midwife from the 7th September at The Royal United Hospital in Bath. Nobody wanted to go to the beach two days running so we walked down to The Lawns in our village and had coffee and cakes from Crew Coffee. We then pottered in the garden cutting back some shrubs and then sat out enjoyed the sunshine.
This morning K woke up saying she had a headache and felt odd. She had a sore throat on Tuesday but a flow test came up negative, however, on doing another test this morning, it was positive. She is distraught. We had several day trips planned for this coming last week of the holidays and now they all have to be rearranged. Me, Hubby and L all had negative tests but it will be Mon/Tues before we are completely in the clear. So we are all feeling a bit fed up to be honest. It's my Birthday next Friday and I just hope to god I don't land up spending it isolating in my bedroom.
So sorry to hear one daughter has tested positive for the dreaded virus, but congratulations to the other on her fine achievement! What a week of mixed emotions for you, Emma, and then having to cancel your holiday, too. But the Lake District will still be there when things become more settled as they will in future. It will take time, but as I say, the Lakes will still be there. Hppe you have had a lovely birthday - I've only just read this, so I couldn't wish you good wishes before the day!

It's been a week of ups and downs for sure. Very proud of S and her degree but will miss her terribly when she moves back up to Bath next Sunday. The girls have not been that ill with covid, it's just been hard on them having to isolate. Luckily, me, Hubby and L are still testing negative. My birthday is this coming Friday, the 3rd, so I'm hopeful we should be able to get out for the day, just got to hope the sunshine comes back!
DeleteI'm so sorry about both daughters contracting Covid, I hope you stay virus-free and can celebrate your birthday outside the four walls of your house!
ReplyDeleteWell done to your clever daughter for a magnificent degree. xxx
Thanks Vix - it's all rather ruined the last week of the school holidays and typically the sun has come out the last few days! Hopefully, the rest of us will avoid it and we can spend my birthday at the beach. Hope the festival goes well for you x
